Madeit Monday ~ Gretel Draws

There are some crafter's that for me, really stand out from the crowd. They create the kind of work that draws you in and makes you keep coming back for more. Gretel Girl falls into that category.

I stumbled across this breath taking picture on madeit the other night and I just thought to myself wow. Something new that I haven't seen and not only is it unique, it was one of those pieces of creativity where I couldn't get fast enough into her store to see what else she had on offer. Her works really do make my heart sing and inspire me to get crafting.

These pieces of art have left a great impression on my crafty self, now its just to pick which one(s) I want hanging on my wall... I feel the need to win the lottery to have them all!

Meet Alice

Who doesn't love the story of Alice in Wonderland? I must say it would have to be one of my favourite fairy tales and I love the Golden Books version with its beautiful illustrations the most.

Alice is a 12 1/2 Inch Waldorf Inspired Doll. Her hair is a gorgeous, soft blend of Wool and Soya. She already has a loving new best friend to call her very own and I am also working on a sister for dear Alice to join her very soon. She now has her hair in Pig - Tails, and more child friendly shoes, but she is still very sweet and extra cuddly.

Its really hard to send these dollies away, first off because I hate stuffing them in a postage bag, hehe, and also because so much of me goes into them that I love them all so much I could keep them. But knowing that they are going to such loving homes and making a little persons day so bright, makes the whole process a little bit easier.

Friday Finds ~ Oh Deer Me!

Oh Deer Me! A sweet name that rings true to its stock.

This little old school boutique reminds me of days gone by, when kids roamed the streets on there big seated, big handle barred bicycles with out a care in the world.

The prints are funky, cute, vintage yet so very, very 'right now'. What a shame the times past can't get a revival once more along with these beautiful style clothes.

I know when those times are back, my own children will be dressed ready for the occasion in Oh Deer Me!

Whats in a doll?

So, whats in a doll? To be precise, lovely, plush, wool stuffing.

But really, its a whole lot more.

When I started making dolls, they were rag dolls made from homespun cotton fabric and stuffed with polyester fill. That, felt natural to me. It was how I thought toys were made because you know, everyone else seemed to be doing it.

Little did I know of the wonders of working with natural fibers. Of stuffing and putting life into something that could bring so much joy to the maker and to the new owner.

With each strand of wool that goes into a doll, for each thread that is stitched, a little bit of my heart goes right in, sitting side by side with the fibers. Its an amazing thing, watching a 'little person' come to life from a square of fabric. As you hold the doll in your hands, whether it be whilst you attach the wig, or give it a little secret cuddle, they warm up. You really do feel like you have something 'alive' in your hands.

I guess the most exciting thing is how new all of this is. Learning, is a great passion of mine and the excitement of growing old skills, and developing new ones is such a great joy. Waldorf dolls are made to help children to strengthen their creativity and imagination, I guess that they work for adults to.

Welcome to the first edition of the old 'Madeit Monday' from the old blog. I hope to showcase a lot of marvelous things that I come across at madeit, so with out further adieu...

Way up, right at the top of the 'big Australia' (ask my four year old)... lives a crafty little fox that goes by the name of Ainslee. a.k.a Ainslee Fox Handmade.

Ainslee Fox, is one of those unique little boutique lines whose colour picks are bold, daring and mouth-watering delicious.

This crafty little fox certainly has her sew-jo on high speed... is it any wonder that these little beauties are gone with in seconds.

I really don't know what I am doing, telling you all about Ainslee Fox, you see, I am desperately trying to catch a fox, hopefully before my 9 month old hits high school... But, it's unique and wonderful finds like these that just need to be shared with the world... Just don't any of you dare buy a size 0 ;)

Meet Sebastian

Meet Sebastian.

Sebastian is a handsome 12" Waldorf Inspired Doll with a sweet little nose made from all natural materials. He comes dressed in a mini cowboy costume.

His hair is a gorgeous blend of 70% Wool and 30% Soya.

He loves playing in the sandpit with his trucks, making little city's with piles of sand then he drives all his trucks around. His cheeks are flushed from running around outside under the Autumn sun. He also loves playing cowboys.

He is a little bit afraid of the dark, but cuddled up next to someone he sleeps the night away dreaming of ice creams and trips to the beach.

Sebastian comes with knitted underwear, felt shoes, a little vest and a pair of jammies (nightwear), a cowboy scarf and hat.

Excitement

Hi there, and welcome to the new and hopefully improved blog with adjoining web page, I could just squeal I am so excited!

I can't tell you how excited I am to have things up and running, it has been a long haul with a lot of technical glitches.

We have taken a new direction here at charlie and ava. Some of you may know us for the clothes that we have produced in the past, but we have done a lot of creative growing in the last few months and now are heading in to the wonderful world of Waldorf doll making.

I hope that you enjoy our journey, we love having you along for the ride and have some very exciting things planned for the near future!
